Running on a limited schedule after practice and qualifying were cancelled for rain on Friday afternoon, Reutimann and the No. 83 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry team participated in two practice sessions on Saturday morning to prepare for Sunday’s 400-mile race. Reutimann was guaranteed the 34th starting position for Sunday’s Party in the Pocono’s 400 presented by Walmart when the field was set according to the NASCAR rulebook, so the BK Racing team utilized practice to prepare their Camry for the race.
Known among the NASCAR fan base as “The Tricky Triangle,” Pocono Raceway always presents drivers with a unique set of challenges among its three-turn configuration. Track position is placed at a premium at the 2.5-mile track, and so Reutimann and the No. 83 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota team knew they would have their own set of challenges to face after starting deep in the pack. Fighting for track position and a loose-handling car, Reutimann relied on his BK Racing team to tighten up his racecar with each pit stop. The team worked diligently to fix the balance of the car, but with a fast-paced race and only a handful of caution laps, getting the track position the No. 83 team needed was a challenge. After 400 miles, Reutimann crossed the finish line in the 32nd position.
“This weekend’s race proved to be a bit of a challenge,” commented Reutimann. “With the rain cancelling qualifying and cutting our practice time short, the No. 83 Burger King / Dr. Pepper team had to work quickly to dial in our Toyota Camry for Sunday’s race. With the varying weather conditions, our setup proved to be a bit too loose for the race, but the guys worked hard all afternoon to try to get the car tightened up. It’s always a challenge when you have to start deep in the field at a track where passing can be difficult, but I’m proud of the effort of my team and all the hard work they put in all weekend. I’m looking forward to getting to Michigan International Speedway next weekend.”
Someone in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ will have a very special Father’s Day celebration as the series heads to Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, June 16. Fans can tune in on SPEED on Friday, June 14 for practice (11:30 a.m. EDT) and qualifying (3:30 p.m. EDT). Final practice from the two-mile oval will be held on Saturday, June 15 at 12:30 p.m. EDT and will also be broadcast on SPEED.
