Vautier gets engine penalty

Tristan Vautier, Schmidt, Long Beach IndyCar 2013Tristan Vautier will start Sunday’s IndyCar race at Long Beach from the rear of the grid after being issued a penalty for an unapproved engine change.

The Frenchman had originally qualified 19th, meaning that the 10-place penalty will relegate him to the last grid spot.

He is the first driver this year to be issued with an engine-change penalty; a stark contrast to this event 12 months ago when the entire Chevrolet line-up was penalised for making precautionary changes under instruction from the manufacturer.

Joining him at the back of the field will be Scott Dixon, who lost his best two qualifying laps for causing a red flag, and Marco Andretti, who was penalised for qualifying interference.
