Update 3/18/13: We’ve received a fresh batch of spy photos that show the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-class completely uncovered. As we suspected, the sedan loses the fender blisters and the fussier details of the current model. The S-class has inherited a trio of arcing body-side creases similar to those on the new compact CLA-class, and the front end mixes cues from the outgoing sedan and Benz’s smaller E-class. There’s a lot of the current-gen CL-class in the 2014 S-class’s rear end, with tall, narrow taillights—complete with CLA-like LED accent strips—and a canted trunklid. Overall, the S-class’s design pushes it solidly forward in the styling department, and it looks properly modern enough to serve as a vessel for Mercedes’s latest high-tech gear. We expect the 2015 S-class coupe (that’s the freshly renamed, next-gen CL-class) and cabriolet to wear near-identical styling, although those models might wear sportier front and rear fascias.
