Fabrizio Giovanardi will return to competition this year after announcing he will rejoin the Superstars series this month.
The Italian, who has nine major tin-top titles to his name including two BTCC crowns, raced in the series in 2010 and will be joining the Petri Corse team driving a Porsche Panamera S at Brno later this month.
Giovanardi is the only driver to have won with the Panamera in the Superstars series so far.
“My Superstars comeback came in a very unexpected fashion,” said Giovanardi, “but I’m definitely very happy for the proposal from Petri Corse.
“I know the car really well and I find it exciting in terms of design and development. Being back behind the wheel of the Panamera will be a great challenge and I’ll be fully-focused in taking the Porsche brand back to the leading pack.”
The 46-year-old Italian’s last competitive outing was in the Nurburgring 24 Hours last year.
“We are honoured to welcome a top-flight driver like Giovanardi,” said Petri Corse boss Simone Petri.
“We had already joined forces in testing to develop the Panamera and I am sure that no one but him can push it to its very limit. We are extremely committed to
this project and we want to maximize the results.”
